GOAL SETTING AND GO GETTING; THE EAGLE EXAMPLE (PART FOUR)

 THE EAGLE'S NEST

The eagles nest is a sight to behold; It weighs more than two tonnes and in fact, it can support two grown men. You do not find this kind of nest anywhere else. It is usually found in the most remote and unattainable spot the bird can find and then it will be perched very high in the mountains or on some sheer cliff or a very high tree. Due to the massive size of this nest and the fact that each and every stick and materials like timber from construction sites, discarded clothing, paper, fresh stick, grass and leaves  to prevent the nest from getting dirty  has to be carried to this remote building by the eagle, you will easily agree that the nest building will be a huge task for the eagle.

The eagle, however, is not intimidated or overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of this task. It understands the power of goals and taking little steps  which add up in the long run  towards the achievement of these goals. As Robert Schuller said, “By the yard, it is hard but inch by inch and anything is a cinch.” The eagle has an overwhelming goal inside it and that is the blueprint for its future nest. God has given this eagle a picture of what exactly the nest will look like and it simply goes ahead to carrying out procedures and processes to make this a reality. In the face of storms, blizzards and earthquakes the eagle continues. No matter how often the nest is destroyed, the eagle always finishes the job. It is not deterred by seemingly insurmountable odds, adversities or temporary setbacks. Never on this earth would you see a partly completed eagles nest. The eagle succeeds because it has that inner picture of its goal planted deeply within him. Hence, he proceeds with perseverance until the picture becomes a reality.

This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching for those things which are above. I press towards the mark for the high calling.

 Apostle Paul of Tarsus.

Goals shift you from fire-fighting to fire prevention. Be like the eagle. Not only should your vision (the picture of your future) be embedded deeply within you, you also need the perseverance to ensure that it comes into pass.  No matter how many times your nest is broken down. No matter the hail, storm or fire, you will have to rebuild until you succeed. It is goals, the step- by  step plans which will help you stay focused and persevere in the midst of these challenges.
