GOAL-SETTING SERIES
GOAL-SETTING AND GOAL-SETTING; ANY NEXUS

Scientists have discovered that the brain is a goal seeking organism; whatever goal you give to your sub-conscious mind, it will work day and night to achieve. Goal setting refers to the art of setting specific and measurable , achievable, realistic and time-bound objective. This means that your goals must be smart and you should act on them with the certainty that you will achieve them.

ADVANTAGES OF GOALS AND GOAL SETTING

1. Goals stretch you. The ultimate goal in life is not limited to material benefits like cars, houses and the likes even though they are useful. The ultimate goal is to become a "master" at life. Being a master at life is not a destination but a journey that spans throughout life. That journey will require you to learn new skills, expand your vision of possibilities, build new relationships and overcome your fears, considerations and roadblocks. As Jim Rohn, a success coach and philosopher once said, "You want to set a goal that is big enough so that in the process of achieving it you become someone worth becoming"

2. Goals simplify your decision making process. With goals you are committed to details and like you know excellence resides in the details. As Thoreau, a philosopher said, “Simplify, Simplify, Simplify” Goals help you to declutter your mind and clarify exactly what you are after. You know exactly what to do.
3. Goals help you to preserve your time:
As you attain higher heights of success, you will constantly be faced with so many activities demanding for your time. You will have a handful of people inviting you to join this association, this board this organization, this this or this that. A thousand and one opportunities for you will show up. With goals however, you will be able to evaluate each and predict the rewards that will be yielded for the investment of your time. You will be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. You will know activities that improve the over all quality of your life and those that do not.  Clearly, the difference between activity and productivity are goals. The difference between busyness and business are goals as well.

4. Goals give you a feeling of satisfaction and produces an exciting flavour of accomplishment
Human beings are goal seeking organisms and the key to happiness is in constantly setting and accomplishing goals. Look back to the times you received awards for things you have done or the last time you gave a presentation or completed that product. How did it feel? Some people describe that as a moment in which they came alive; an undescribable  joy fills your heart. That is what happens when you set goals. Without goals however, you float aimlessly.
