TAMING TIME'S WINGED CHARIOT IN THE FIELD OF LIFE (PART TWO)

PRACTICAL STRATEGY 2-  LEVERAGE ON ROUTINES

"Have a time and place for everything and do everything in its time and place and you will not only accomplish more but have far more leisure than those who are always hurrying"  -Tryon Edwards

You implement routines when you to begin to practice doing things in a set time attached for that purpose everyday.  Friends, that's the way it works. Let us imbibe the power of routines. Do the right thing at the right time which you have particularly set out for that purpose. That is a more productive approach.  Even Ecclesiastes corroborates this, thus: "To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heaven." A little today, a little tomorrow leads to something significant. Constancy leads to something monumental.

"When you improve a little each day, eventually big things occur. When you improve conditioning a little each day, eventually you have a big improvement in conditioning. Not tomorrow, not the next day, but eventually a big gain is made. Don't look for the big, quick improvement. Seek the small improvement one day at a time. That's the only way it happens-and when it happens, it lasts."
- John Wooden, one of the most successful coaches in the history of college basketball.
Do not be scared by the sheer volume of the task. By working constantly on your goals daily at set times, you leverage on the power of compounding to achieve set targets.

PRACTICAL STRATEGY 3-   PRACTICE THE PARETO PRINCIPLE
An Italian Economist, Vilfredo Pareto in 1895 revealed that 80% of our activities yield only 20% of tangible results. Amazingly, 20% of our activities provide a massive 80% of results. This is what is called the Pareto principle which is named after this popular economist. Putting this in context, the meaning is that as a business person 80 percent of your sales will come from twenty percent of your customers. It also means that 80 percent of your success will come from twenty percent of your activities.

Time management therefore requires that you do a cost-benefit analysis of your time to discover what is called the vital few. This will help you to realize the kind of activities that will help you to chart the future that you truly want and desire. Once you realize activities focus on them. It is not enough to be busy. The question is what are you busy about? The ants also are busy. Never mistake activity for productivity or busyness for business. They do not mean the same thing so concentrate on high value activities.
